Ayako Hiramatsu teaches American Politics and is associate professor at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, the University of Tokyo.

Her research focuses on politics of the American South in the mid-twentieth century, especially the voting rights and the political parties. “The Second, Selective Reconstruction: Administrative Procedures and the Justice Department’s Enforcement of the Voting Rights Act,” published in Studies in American Political Development (vol. 39, no. 2, October 2025), is her most recent piece.
